Case study: Birmingham

Due to its reputation within the insurance industry, Vertex was engaged to facilitate the reclamation of a significant amount of contaminated I.T equipment from multiple large Data Halls following a fire which disturbed asbestos materials within the areas concerned.

The importance of the equipment meant that it had to be cleaned and returned to use which posed significant problems due to the asbestos contamination. Vertex designed and constructed two bespoke multi-chambered cleaning stations where, under fully controlled conditions, the equipment was dismantled, cleaned by suitably trained personnel and signed off by an independent analyst as fit for re-use before being tested and verified as functional by a specialist contractor and finally returned to the owner.

The project lasted almost a year and required the successful collaboration between the consultant co-ordinating the project, the owners of the equipment, the client managing the Data Halls, the building owner, the specialist I.T equipment remediation contractor and an independent analytical company with all asbestos work being done under the supervision of Vertex.

An HSE inspector visited site and confirmed that he had never seen such a complex operation so diligently planned and constructed. It was a unique project and one which highlights both Vertex’s wide range of capabilities and its resourcefulness.
